Joker

Its been awhile since the last huge Joker release....don't get me wrong City Hopper/Output 1 and 2 was good but Tron has been a long time club banger, played by the likes of Guido, Gemmy, Kode9, Silkie and Kito, that is just now being released. Tron, officially released next week, is one of those tracks you have heard on live and studio mixes since Sonar last year where it was played for one of the first times. Joker continues to push the boundaries with his dubstep dripping with hard synth jabs and that standard chest pounding bass. His forthcoming LP should not disappoint. He claims hes hates LPs that are just compilations of singles that have been previously released so expect mostly new material on his album slated for release sometime late summer....but I am definitely not holding my breath......

Alexander Nut & Lil Silva

I typically dont post mixes on here but these two really encompass everything I like about bass music and its future . Vet of Rinse.fm and Eglo Records head honcho, Alexander Nut busts everything out from Detroit House from legend Omar S and youngster Kyle Hall to UKFunky of Roska and Julio Bashmore seemlessly slipping into Minneappolis funk with Prince. Its crazy what DJs are doing to push the limits on the dancefloor and this mix really shows what a live show could be these days whether in London, Tel Aviv or SanFran.

The second comes from dubplate pressure mon Lil Silva. His dubplates and tracks are highly highly coveted by the likes of Bok Bok, L-Vis1990, Roska, Mosca, Deadboy, Julio Bashmore, Marcus Nasty....basically any name in UKFunky or Garage has played this guy. His tracks Pulse vs. Flex and Different were released as separate white labels and sold out instantly with no represses in sight unfortunately. His remixes just as highly prized and never disappoint. Funniest part is he's 19 and influences Kode9....insane.....Detroit's Kyle Hall and Lil Silva share the same age, different genres, and yet both have recently received the accolades of Kode9..........respect....expecting some official releases soon....these mixes are in celebration of them playing in Room 2 alongside Oneman and Geeneus at the legendary Fabric in London this Friday evening March 26th......get em both

Geiom ft. Marita

Released just two days ago, on my birthday, legendary Berkane Sol owner and operator Geiom comes through again with long time collaborator Marita for this positively divine house, dub, grime, techno, funky, garage, tropical hybrid; and that's just the original mix. The refix comes from, my favorite imprint at the moment, Blunted Robots, co-chairs Brackles and Shorstuff who once again deliver gold. I have been waiting for another smash from Geiom and Marita since Reminissin' back in 2008. Though they have a had a few attempts in between then and now, this track makes them look feeble at best. I have been hearing the refix and original on mixes for quite some time now and never got a definitive release date so it seems fitting it came on my birthday so here it is my present to you, two days late......enjoy

Hot City

Though released in June of last year, these two bangers have been staples on many of the future garage/funky cat's playlists for the past 10 months and one, Sweat, is currently featured on the latest FACT Magazine Podcast by Doc Daneeka (highly recommended as well). Only vaguely garage in style, Hot City makes house music that flows ever so seamlessly into the dubstep and tropical/funky realm due to the effervescent female vocals and pounding 4/4 riddims that slay crowds around the world. This is as house as I get just enough untz to keep the late night crowd rowdy withoug feeling like the guidos fist pumping. Hot hot heat from Hot City....highly recommended....both tracks are club bangers and have the support from the likes of Sinden and Shortstuff to Husdson Mohawke and Raffetie illustrating how dynamic this bass music has become......Fans of Night Slugs, Bok Bok or L-Vis 1990, get it filthy

Egyptrixx

Relatively unknown in the US, Egyptrixx has been cultivating some underground buzz in the UK scene. Gaining notoriety from DJ/producers such as Brackles, Jackmaster and Roska, Egyptrixx has been quietly making his own version of avant-garde garage/funky. Released on the Ahhh! Real Monsters imprint, yes like the nineties cartoon show on Nick, The Battle For North America is his first effort and I must say does not disappoint. Phones and the title track are the real stand outs though Hexagon Ya is the one being seen on top notch tracklists from around the world.

Bok Bok, Brackles & Shortstuff

Keepin on this Funky kick, Bok Bok and Brackles & Shortstuff release two hot singles on Brackles and Shortstuff's immaculate Blunted Robots imprint. Being only the third release on the label, it is easy to see that in 2010 big things will come theses folks and will continue to push the envelope in the ever growing and evolving scene. Already all three releases have been receiving critical acclaim as well as the support of peers like Jackmaster, Julio Bashmore, Deadboy, Joy Orbison, Roska, Mosca just to name a very few....All these men are keeping busy and I am sure another release on Blunted Robots is slated for the near future. If you don't know who Roska is time to get with it. He will be sharing the most coveted spots at Mary Anne Hobbs late night stage with Joy Orbison, FlyLo and of course the queen of bass Mary herself. Though been producing music for years, it was not until recently his gained relevance in the ever evolving and fluid UK underground dance music scene. Scheduled to release his first full length in April through the Rinse outfit, Roska has been making music under his own label Roska Kicks and Snares. Until recently, those tracks were only available through his white label releases but Boomkat has recently digitized some of his work from not only Roska Kicks and Snares but also remixes and special tracks. He is one of the most innovative and respected artists out there pushing the boundaries of funky, house, garage, 2-step and grime/dubstep. The first release from the newly formed Night Slugs imprint, headed by future garage/funky legends Bok Bok and L-Vis 1990, Mosca drops two HUGE funky tracks on his debut release. Night Slugs have been putting on parties in the UK for the past two years and included acts like Joker, Cooly G, Scratcha DVA, Manara, Christian Martin, Greena, D-Malice, Roska the list goes on and on....needless to say they are some of the most influential cats in the bass game....They designated Mosca to do their first official release and it seems fitting since all the aforementioned have either played Square One live in the mix, or remixed the track themselves....HUGE HUGE shit from Night Slugs in 2010 super stoked on this label.....if you collect vinyl be sure to scoop the L-Vis 1990 Night Slugs White Label Compass/Zahonda(NSWL001) while supplies last....no repress on those bad boys....huge tracks just got that 12'' in the mail not too long ago.....enjoy

Jack Sparrow

For the unofficial 100th post, unofficial because I was asked to remove probably a dozen or so over the course of the year, I chose the young phenom Jack Sparrow whose effortless dubstep has been bending genres since his first release way back when. His live sets and mixes incorporate elements of house, garage, funky and dubstep yet his productions are mainly garage influenced, deep, dark dubstep. I have been waiting for this to drop for awhile Terminal has been all over the place the past year and its flipside, Torment, is just as hot. Fans of Synkro, Kryptic Minds or Faib big tip.....
