Fantastic Mr. Fox

First and foremost I want to apologize for the lack of posts I have been super super busy with school and work.....Anyways the man of the hour is Fantastic Mr. Fox. He treads on that thin line between broken, bubbling 8-bit beats and pulse pounding dubstep and even crosses ever so slyly into the garage/house/2-step realm . Right now there is not many producers as inventive and dynamic as FMF; definitely a cat to watch for in 2010. With a remix by one of the biggest in the game right now, SBTRKT, and every track standing out in its own right, Sketches is a must have for your collection. Get it proper an amazing release....

Royce Da 5'9''

I was skeptical about Royce's solo efforts before I listened to this album. I had heard of Royce prior; him being featured on Black Milk's latest endeavor and forming a friendship with Eminem in the late 90's and a brief stint as a duo under the title Bad Meets Evil. One of their tracks, Renegades, was used by Jay-Z several years later. Interesting story.....I knew he had some skill how much blew me away. He chose some of the illest producers and beatmakers to help with this album and includes BIG collaborations with Busta and Bun B. I think this is one of the better hip-hop albums of 2009 and that is saying a lot cuz people are doing it big in 2009. Cop this amazing beats and lyrical content is on point......trying to live up to the promises of the poll and y'all want hip-hop and psychedelia so here is hip-hop......more goodness to come.....

Egyptian Lover

Since the Arabian Prince link got blocked I decided to post one of his colleagues in the soulsonic sound game aptly name Egyptian Lover.....All these soulsonic funk guys love the Middle East and Africa and Egyptian Lover is obviously no exception...and although this album was released in 1984 and the blog is the best of NEW music from around the world this sound and album was way ahead of its time and is slowly becoming relevant again in the hip-hop, dance and underground realms of funk, disco and boogie. Music always goes in cycles; as far as trends in popular music and equally in underground music....so here we are 2009 enjoying albums that were released while we were in the womb or nursing...anyways great production on this album awesome vocals and lyrical content is rather quirky and, although cheesy, the album cover is sick.....look up pictures of him now.....big contrast hahaha....

Arabian Prince

POST NUMBER 75 Y'ALL! The Innovator.. aka Professor X of early early early N.W.A.... aka Arabian Prince is an old school hip-hopper along the lines of Afrikan Bambaata or Egyptian Lover. He released a few EPs in the 80's with production on a few by Dr. Dre. PBW and Stones Throw put together a compilation of all his EPs of his Innovative Life resurrecting the soulsonic sound of yesteryears. Great production, sounds and rhythms coming out hot on the dance floor one of my favorites to listen to....

PANTyRAiD

Marty Party and Ooah's anticipated debut release kind of surprised me.....I thought it was gonna be ALL glitched out wonky bass heavy tunes, not to say there isn't some of that, but overall there are some really good tracks. Some slow melodic dubstepy tracks and others that take a page out of the Glitch Mob playbook......overall a must have for any Glitch Mob or Ooah fan and deifnetely worth the download for the surprisingly coherent and well produced album....

PANTyRAid - The Sauce

Hudson Mohawke

It took a month or two of searching and digging but I finally found it. Set to be released October 26th, HudMo's Butter is the cleanest and most comprehensive of all HudMo releases, in my opinion. The production is spot on and the tracks, some weak others sick, are arranged and mastered with precision and obvious dedication. I don't undertand the Olivier Daysoul tracks but the Dam-Funk track, of course I love, hes on the vocals, and the Nadsroic track was also featured on her Room Mist EP I posted a few months back. I am happy I was able to find it this early and hope you all will enjoy it as much as I do.....classic HudMo with better production quality but new sounds and landscapes......

Georgia Anne Muldrow

The newest album from the princess of soul Georgia Anne Muldrow......Though not the Stones Throw release, which I unfortunately cannot find, Georgia Anne has solidfied her space in history as the first female act signed to the label which saw her "Olesi" release. She is quite a busy lady running her own record label, ePistrophik Peach Sound, with long time collaborator Dudley Perkins (Declaime) and producing all of its modern soul, funk and hip-hop staples. She has been featured on the albums of such artists as DJ Mitsu, Erykah Badu, Eagle Nebula, Stacy Epps, Oddisee and even produced the transcendent ballad, Roses, on Mos Def's newest album The Ecstatic. I have been meaning to post this for awhile but considering my recent obsession with everything funk and soul seems appropriate now....

The Gaslamp Killer

This, and My Troubled Mind EP, are my favorite GLK projects. With vocals by Gonja Sufi, GLK takes his sound to a whole nother level. I listen to this at least once a week if not more definitely on rotation all the time......It was released in 2007 and includes Birthday Music which is on My Troubled Mind EP. I have been wanting to share this for awhile now but have just now got around to it. Another note, the picture above was orignially a well-known Nazi propagandha poster against the United States in the latter part of WWII....you should look up the orignal image and its depiction quite remarkable......

Mary Anne Hobbs

This is the third of Mary Anne Hobbs compilations for Planet Mu records and I MAY go as far to say as its the best but the jury is not in on this one.....Warrior Dubz and Evangeline, the two previous comps, focus more on dark electronic and dubstep sound whereas Wild Angels has more hip-hop, broken beats, future soul and lighter dubstep tunes. As always, the artists selected for the compilations are the who's who of electronic music and frequently appear on her show for BBC Radio 1. This is one compilation not to sleep on and if you can scoop the previous two as well they are just as hot......

NON & Herrmutt Lobby

This was a Japan only release but of course I had to snag it.....anyways NON on the raps Lobby on the production....This album is an eclectic mix of 8-bit beats, funk and flat out old school hip-hop proper. Hits heavy and bumps hard definitely a good listen and all around nice and rare pick up highly recommended for those SamiYam, Quarta 3030 and Dibiase fans. Though American most of both of their releases are on European and Japanese outfits leading to remixes by both Rustie and HudMo......

Blue Sky Black Death

Blue Sky Black Death is the shit....This release came out in April 2008 but I believe is one of their best releases to date....Their Lost and Unreleased album came out for free a couple weeks ago and is good but I like this one better......They are not your typical beatmakers and really have pushed the instrumental hip-hop game to new heights......

Teebs

Teebs is a member of the now notorious Brainfeeder crew. He has said for some time now that he has a CDR ready for copping but did not have the cord to plug his camera into his computer to retreive the cover art......excuses excuses........but not all is lost......last week at The Crosby in Santa Ana, CA (The OC for all you cool kids) Teebs distibuted 50 CDR copies of his original material....prior to this I had one Teebs mix, which is from MAH in April of this year and is also the first track on here thats 15:44, and one track he accompanied Jackhigh on so needless to say I was all about copping this and for good reason its sick! All the tracks are untitled, a little vexing, but the caliber of music trumps any woes I had with his decision to leave them unnamed.

Best of MAH Part Deux

This is a continuation from the first Best of MAH post in June. For this installment I have chosen some of the hottest mixes ever to grace the airwaves on BBC Radio 1 Mary Anne Hobbs Experimental Show. The first mix comes from the Gaslamp Killer....of course......sorry but this guys is unbelievable cannot wait to catch him at Decibel. This mix was recorded for MAH in late May for The Low End Theory Special and at only 12 minutes long is one of my favorite GLK mixes I own......The next two come from the legendary X Chromosome Special in April of this year. I posted Nadsroic's mix from that show and now I'll add the ladies of Hyperdub Records Cooly G and Ikonika.....The last mix for this addition of Best of MAH comes from the brilliant Brackles from a June show this year.....he just always lays it down so here there are enjoy.....

14KT

14KT has been making waves since his first instrumental release, The Golden Hour, dropped last year. Since then 14KT has been linking up with some of today's hot young underground producers such as Black Milk who co-produced this album with him getting the mastering just right.....
14KT says, "Here it is.. a project I unofficially had done since 2006. It started when James Yancey (aka J Dilla) passed that February. To cope with the death of my favorite producer, who I liked to call my unofficial “musical mentor”, I started making “donuts” … uncontrollably."
Track list available in the picture obviously so enjoy

Durlin Lurt

The mysterious Durlin Lurt released this free album, Him Jenson, through his myspace account which disappeared shortly after its drop. From what I remember this cat is from Boston but not much else is known about him. This album uses all Jim Henson samples from Sesame Street and The Muppets.....It seems corny on paper but it is a really chill, lo-fi beat tape that makes for an amazing listen. Track three entitled Crayonz is sampled from the music used in the background during the Sesame Street segment in the Crayola factory. The first time I heard I was immediately transported back to the first time I saw the crayons being shot up and down, over and under through the factory....it seems stupid but has some killer beats so enjoy....

The Gaslamp Killer

For post number 50 I have selected GLK. The Gaslamp Killer got his name from DJing in the posh Gaslamp District of San Diego. Since then he has been tearing up crowds from L.A. to Barcelona and everywhere in between. This is his first release on Brainfeeder and I think is one of the best EPs of 2009 thus far....Though released earlier this month, this EP still recieves preferential treatment on my stereo.

Keaver & Brause

Keaver & Brause are a little known production team out of Midlands in the UK. I came across The Middle Way about a month ago and has been on heavy rotation ever since. Their beat-making skills rival the heavy hitters in the scene. They use Eastern influences like Madlib and Krush do so well and add an original flavor all their own. Not your typical boom boom clap, the piano rolls are flawless and work well with the ambient undertones they frequently use...Summers t'Say and Airborn are standouts but the whole album in its entirety is really worth the download there is not a bad song on this album so cop it.....
