Joker

Its been awhile since the last huge Joker release....don't get me wrong City Hopper/Output 1 and 2 was good but Tron has been a long time club banger, played by the likes of Guido, Gemmy, Kode9, Silkie and Kito, that is just now being released. Tron, officially released next week, is one of those tracks you have heard on live and studio mixes since Sonar last year where it was played for one of the first times. Joker continues to push the boundaries with his dubstep dripping with hard synth jabs and that standard chest pounding bass. His forthcoming LP should not disappoint. He claims hes hates LPs that are just compilations of singles that have been previously released so expect mostly new material on his album slated for release sometime late summer....but I am definitely not holding my breath......

Alexander Nut & Lil Silva

I typically dont post mixes on here but these two really encompass everything I like about bass music and its future . Vet of Rinse.fm and Eglo Records head honcho, Alexander Nut busts everything out from Detroit House from legend Omar S and youngster Kyle Hall to UKFunky of Roska and Julio Bashmore seemlessly slipping into Minneappolis funk with Prince. Its crazy what DJs are doing to push the limits on the dancefloor and this mix really shows what a live show could be these days whether in London, Tel Aviv or SanFran.

The second comes from dubplate pressure mon Lil Silva. His dubplates and tracks are highly highly coveted by the likes of Bok Bok, L-Vis1990, Roska, Mosca, Deadboy, Julio Bashmore, Marcus Nasty....basically any name in UKFunky or Garage has played this guy. His tracks Pulse vs. Flex and Different were released as separate white labels and sold out instantly with no represses in sight unfortunately. His remixes just as highly prized and never disappoint. Funniest part is he's 19 and influences Kode9....insane.....Detroit's Kyle Hall and Lil Silva share the same age, different genres, and yet both have recently received the accolades of Kode9..........respect....expecting some official releases soon....these mixes are in celebration of them playing in Room 2 alongside Oneman and Geeneus at the legendary Fabric in London this Friday evening March 26th......get em both

Geiom ft. Marita

Released just two days ago, on my birthday, legendary Berkane Sol owner and operator Geiom comes through again with long time collaborator Marita for this positively divine house, dub, grime, techno, funky, garage, tropical hybrid; and that's just the original mix. The refix comes from, my favorite imprint at the moment, Blunted Robots, co-chairs Brackles and Shorstuff who once again deliver gold. I have been waiting for another smash from Geiom and Marita since Reminissin' back in 2008. Though they have a had a few attempts in between then and now, this track makes them look feeble at best. I have been hearing the refix and original on mixes for quite some time now and never got a definitive release date so it seems fitting it came on my birthday so here it is my present to you, two days late......enjoy

Ginz and Kool Money Kwame

Thirteenth release on Pinch's seminal Earwax Recordingd, one of two record labels he runs, the other being Tectonic. Purple boys Ginz and Kool Money Kwame team up for these new 12'' bangers which you have definitely heard if you caught the any of the Joker U.S. dates and many of the mixes and lives sets from the past year from Gemmy, Guido, Silkie, Quest or Chefal. Big tunes as always dripping with mind-bending synth riddims and that sound we all know and love but cannot put into any other words except, PURPLE. Cop this shit for sure great tunes instant classics.

Jack Sparrow

For the unofficial 100th post, unofficial because I was asked to remove probably a dozen or so over the course of the year, I chose the young phenom Jack Sparrow whose effortless dubstep has been bending genres since his first release way back when. His live sets and mixes incorporate elements of house, garage, funky and dubstep yet his productions are mainly garage influenced, deep, dark dubstep. I have been waiting for this to drop for awhile Terminal has been all over the place the past year and its flipside, Torment, is just as hot. Fans of Synkro, Kryptic Minds or Faib big tip.....

RSD

If you have not heard of RSD and this track in particular you must have been living under a rock the past few years. Seen on playlists from Joker to Skream to UK Funky crossover king L-Vis 1990, Naked Mariokart has gotten its fair share of play time in clubs all over the world. After a delayed release due to sampling rights, as is often the case with many of these tracks, RSD follows up his success in 2009 with this big drop in the first quarter of 2010. A must have for fans of electronic music in general and dubstep in particular. Massive 12" definitely picking it up on vinyl......BUH BUH BADA BUH BADA DA DA DA DUM!

Terror Danjah

The living legend steps up for the 31st release from the Hyperdub imprint that dropped earlier this week. Having influence on some of the biggest players in the game: Joker, Guido, Mala and Kode9, Terror Danjah has some of the most unique and pulse pounding sounds out there. His instrumental album Gremlinz came out last year and plays like a greatest hits album from 2003-2009. Though there are many amazing tracks on that compilation, I believe these two tracks are some of his best efforts to date. Both tracks play on the tropical bass swing themes present in both UK Funky and
dubstep these days and are dripping with his signature technicolor synths. This is really pushing Hyperdub in a new direction...big tip

Fantastic Mr. Fox

First and foremost I want to apologize for the lack of posts I have been super super busy with school and work.....Anyways the man of the hour is Fantastic Mr. Fox. He treads on that thin line between broken, bubbling 8-bit beats and pulse pounding dubstep and even crosses ever so slyly into the garage/house/2-step realm . Right now there is not many producers as inventive and dynamic as FMF; definitely a cat to watch for in 2010. With a remix by one of the biggest in the game right now, SBTRKT, and every track standing out in its own right, Sketches is a must have for your collection. Get it proper an amazing release....

DVA

Keeping this future garage theme going...DVA busts on the scene with his debut EP on the iconic Hyperdub label. Slated for release tomorrow, its the label's 30th release and a benchmark for the half-decade-old record company. Kode9 does not ever disappoint his loyal followers and once again delivers a banging take on the UK Funky sound....a little 8-bit a little 2-step but all Hyperdub......grab this for sure highly recommended.

Martin Kemp

Once again though a little dated (December 2009), Martin Kemp comes through with his first full EP on the Blunted Robot imprint. Though compared to his older brother Brackles, Kemp has quickly become one of the most unique and noteworthy hybrid garage producers around. His music allows bass and drums symbiotically playing off each other with deep jungle rhythms and chest pounding sub...Definitely and artist to keep an eye out for in 2010 and was just on Mary Anne Hobbs the other week.....you can download just his 16 min mix here .........also included is his banger 'No Charisma' which can be seen on top DJs track lists from shows and mixes all over the UK and Europe....

Deadboy

In the new year you'll be hearing a lot about the new hybrid of UK Funky and Garage coupled with R&B and Dubstep. I see Deadboy as one of the artists on the forefront of such a movement. His first EP has three amazing examples of future gar-randb-funk-step sounds. His FACT Magazine podcast hits hard and can still be downloaded for a short time here (Go to page one and right click save as the link). He will be releasing the first EP, "If You Want Me," from newly formed Numbers Record label created by the crew that made the name notorious. He is also slated to release a few remixes of an Ashanti banger and Cassie's "Official Girl ft. Lil Wayne" which can be heard in the amazing FACT Mix... though this EP is slightly dated its still new and fresh and makes me excited about the releases coming through this year......

Joy Orbison

So I have been debating whether or not to continue to post the best of 2009 or wait for something worthwhile to post that was released this year. Well...there has been a few EPs worthy of posting but its a matter of taste and I don't think a lot of my readers would be into what I am currently listening to with the exception of this.....Originally set to be released in February, Joy Orbison's The Shrew EP leaked late last week and I haven't been able to purge these tunes from my head. Both are brilliant and although I am not really digging up-and-comer, Actress', remix I can understand why people are all over it.....Expect more big things from JO in 2010

DJ Madd

DJ Madd has been making huuuuuuuuuuge strides in 2009 and is sure to continue his success well into the next decade. In my opinion, he has had some of the biggest records of 2009 but thats up for some heavy debate. DJ Madd is known for his sweeping melodies, complex yet not overworked rhythms and his appropriate and beautiful vocal sampling. Here are his two best releases of 2009. Flex'd, on the Better With You EP, is and will always be one of my favorite dubstep tracks of all time and the Breakage Someone Remix is an absolute banger.....enjoy

Autonomic

I apologize for the lack of posting but with the holidays and all there really has not been any worth while releases to post....I take that back there have been a few good EPs but they fail in comparison to this little gem. For the 50th Fabric release....an ongoing series promoting the famous club in London.......d:Bridge and Instra:mental step up under the moniker Autonomic, a name they also use to release a semi-frequent podcasts. As far as DJ/producers go you couldn't find three more gifted individuals......all with a background in drum and bass, the trio takes the atmospheric R&B style garage influenced dubstep to another level......this mix shows the full spectrum of future sounds and rhythms sure to quench your thirst for something new.....

Instra:mental

Instra:mental is the duo of Al Bleek and Kid Drama. The duo has been making huge strides in 2009 and recently were named DJ Mag's Best Of Britain Awards Breakthrough Producer's of the Year. No one else in my mind really could snag that award. With roots in drum n' bass, 2-step and garage, the duo has brought a whole new element to the dubstep game with their atmospheric and minimalistic approach. Teaming entrancing vocals and perpetual rhythms, Watching You and Tramma, the second of four releases on their own imprint Nonplus Records, represents both sides of Instra:mental's creative boundaries. They can hit the dancefloor heavy or get deep and dusky, making you wanna just have a hazy blazy afternoon...fans of Joy Orbison, Vaccine, Faib, Burial, Synkro or Subeena will love Instra:mental.....but my guess is you have heard of these two if you have already discovered the aforementioned.....Watching You is on repeat in my head, on my iPod and in my car......If you can get your hands on Instra:mental - Leave It All Behind / Forbidden EP on Appleblim's Applepips Label another amazing EP of theirs......maybe ill post the link....maybe

Ikonika

I love Ikonika and for the 29th Hyperdub release Kode9 has chose her to represent his label yet again. On the heels of her Smuck release for Planet Mu, Ikonika takes a small departure from the 8-bit world she is comfortable and excells in.....at least for the track titled Fish cuz we all know Sahara Michael, featured on the Hyperdub 5 comp, is that 8-bit craziness we love. Fish is really a banger though and should definitely get scooped.....

King Midas Sound

Deep, brooding, mysterious and flawless...some of the words that describe this highly anticipated album. Comprised of Kevin Martin, otherwise known as The Bug, and Roger Robinson whose eerie, transcendent vocals will suck you into their unique sounds. Also three of the tracks feature Hitomi of Dokkebi Q which adds yet another element of melancholy to the mix. I have been waiting for this to be available for awhile and have not found anything that is blowing my mind lately. That coupled with crazy school shit is why I have been slacking on the posting but Joker's new 12'' City Hopper / Output 1 and 2 EP will be out next week and there are a few other EPs I am looking forward too as well so I will post those as soon as I get them....

Femme Fatale

Two new ones from the ladies of the Planet Mu label....Subeena's track with Om'mas Keith is hot and the b-side is sick too.....not really a dubstep track more of an 80's dance anthem but I dig it nonetheless.....The Ikonika original track, Smuck, and remix is what you'd expect from Ikonika; original, laid back, intricate yet simple 8-bit dubstep beats....but thats why we love her......

Brackles

For some reason I heave been really feeling Brackles lately. Maybe its because most of the people I know who are into dubstep have this biased view of the genre, especially in the U.S., that its all wobbles and wonks care of Rusko, Caspa, 16 Bit and Skream but in reality its a multi-faceted entity. Brackles brings a more sensible side of the sound. More like U.K. garage than dubstep but still has that deeper dubstep appeal. Mary Anne Hobbs is a huge Brackles fan and slowly I have become one too...I only have these two EPs, one of which features a track with Brackles collaborator Shorstuff, but I am looking forward to his new full length to pop up soon on Planet Mu.......
